Saturday Social

Operated by Friends of Airedale

The volunteers provide a social event for patients on alternate Saturday mornings in the hospital restaurant, collecting patients from the wards, organising entertainment and providing refreshments. Special events are arranged at particular times of the year such as Easter and Christmas.

Ward Trolley Service

Operated by Friends of Airedale

Provide a range of sweets, drinks and toiletries on the wards. It operates from Monday to Saturday on a rota.


Communications & Fundraising

Friends of Airedale maintain social media in the form of Facebook page and Twitter account. We also have online donation pages and the website. Various fundraising activities take place which require administrative support




Clothes for Dignity

Operated by Friends of Airedale

A team of volunteers provide a vital service in providing outdoor ware to patients who have arrived in hospital with only their night attar so that they can go home in warm clothes. The service has been extended to A&E department were patients had come in through an accident.

Gardening Section

Operated by Friends of Airedale

Help is always needed around the grounds by the gardeners and volunteers assist with various tasks.

Patient Real Time Survey

Operated by Friends of Airedale

Volunteers visit wards and use a tablet computer to collect ‘real time’ feedback from patients about their experiences whilst in hospital. The questionnaires are anonymous and do not identify individuals. The information gathered is feed back to the nursing staff and management.

Patient Transport

Operated by Friends of Airedale

Volunteer drivers provide a valuable service, collecting patients and visitors into the hospital and return trip and providing a service around the hospital. The service also can provide transport to other hospitals in the area. Driver with a clean drivers license is preferred.


Flowers for Chapel & Reception

Funded by Friends of Airedale

Fresh flower arrangements are provided for both areas on a weekly basis and are funded by the charities.

Car Boot Sales

Operated by Friends of Airedale

Held on the first and third Sunday mornings from April to September. Help is always needed to organize sellers, buyers and direct traffic.

Breast Feeding Support

New mothers are always grateful for the support of volunteers.

Pet Therapy

Operated by Friends of Airedale

Volunteers bring in their trained dogs for therapy for the patients. This is a very specialised area of volunteering.

Main Entrance Shop

The hospital shop is located in main reception, and sells a variety of goods to patients and visitors. The shop is organised on a roster basis and is open seven days a week.

Outpatients’ Cafe Shop

Operated by Friends of Airedale

The cafe is located in outpatients’ and sells a range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and fresh cakes, to patients, staff and visitors. The shop is open five days a week and is operated on a roster by volunteers.


Guides and Information

Guides help to direct patients and visitors to wards, clinics and other departments and provide this service five days a week.


Library Service

Operated by Friends of Airedale

The patient’s library service is open on a Monday and Thursday afternoons and holds a wide range of books. Volunteers operate a trolley service to the wards for the benefit of patients.


Befriending

Operated by Friends of Airedale

The volunteers work on the elderly wards, providing informal companionship to patients. It is primarily concerned with providing a sympathetic ear and an opportunity for a friendly chat.

Chapel Area

Operated by Friends of Airedale

There are four areas you may want to consider for help in the chapel area. Volunteers help to take patients to the services which are held in the hospital chapel on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings or volunteers visit wards on either a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning collecting names of patients who would like to attend the chapel service. Help is always needed to share in playing the organ for the chapel services. Chaplaincy assistants help to provide spiritual care to patients on the wards.

Patient Feeding

Volunteers help patients who have some difficulty at mealtimes or who may need some encouragement to eat,

Children’s Development Care

Volunteers help generally with providing hospitality for families attending with their children.
